We were planning an addition to our home, and had an issue with our previous architect/engineer (many delays and they never actually even started on our project 2 months after their promise date.) We had a very tight deadline (as the addition was being built to accommodate a rehab space for “Mom” who had surgery planned within 2 months). I found AGAPP on Angie's list, and called and explained our dilemma. He was very understanding, and came out to our home that same night, and had 3 different sketched out options for us within 24 hours. He needed an engineer for the engineering drawings, and talked to a firm about our deadline, and they thought they could get us a plan in 2 weeks. He listened carefully to our needs and ideas. He offered some other suggestions, and quickly provided modified drawings when we asked to combine ideas from 2 drawings and reduce our overall costs. His price was consistent with what the other firm was charging, but the personal attention and understanding of what we wanted (and within our budget) was amazingly higher than the service we received from the other firm. We felt like he really cared and wanted to provide us exactly what we wanted. The engineering firm was unable to complete our engineering plan within the promised time frame, but AGAPP was very helpful and responsive. He worked closely with us to try to get a better turn-around time from the engineering firm, speaking with us almost daily. He had professional complete plans to us very quickly. At the very end of our deadline, as we were trying to get our plans to the permit office before they closed, we offered to pick them up from the printer ourselves, since he was unable to get them that afternoon. He apologized for the inconvenience, and even reduced the cost of his work to compensate us for the time we spent picking them up. I have nothing bad to say about AGAPP and would highly recommend their service. We have a beautiful new addition on our home. Neighbors keep mentioning how well the exterior blends with the rest of the house, and looks like it has always been there. And the inside is bigger and the space is much more functional and has better light than we had thought possible.

I used Jim Felmlee from A Guy A Pencil and A Plan (AGAPP). We are still in the beginning stages and so far, he has been very personable and based on his website and based on what he spoke will be a good match for us. He is easy to work with and seems to really have some good ideas, which is where we were struggling. Jim is very, very responsive and has always been more than on time.

A Guy A Pencil and A Plan did a whole house remodel along with adding a second floor for us. From the first moment Jim saw the house he had a great vision for it. I had met with several other contractors and designers and all were just keeping it the same. Jim saw more potential for the house. He worked with us to know what we wanted and first did some basic room drawings. We worked with those a bit, making changes and such, before doing the plans. He had great insight into what works and what doesn’t. He also was sensitive to keeping with the neighborhood design and era of the house. He had great suggestions, and more importantly, was open to any suggestions or changes we had. We never felt like we were inconveniencing him. He also had great contacts for us, providing us with a good structural engineer and a wonderful contractor. He did as he said, showed up on time, and was wonderful to work with. The actual construction has just started but we are very excited about what we’re going to have when it’s done. I highly recommend A Guy A Pencil and A Plan.
